About BGSC
WHO ARE WE?
The Biochemistry Graduate Student Council (BGSC) is composed of five members who are elected to represent the Biochemistry graduate student body in an annual, student-wide selection.
These students take on the following roles:
- President
- Vice President
- Social Chair
- Treasurer
- Outreach Coordinator
OUR MISSION
Our mission as the Biochemistry Graduate Student Council is to promote student interests at Duke University both within and outside of the Biochemistry Department. This includes acting as liaison between students and faculty or other Duke administrators, representing Biochemistry student interests at the Graduate & Professional Student Council as well as facilitating social and outreach events.
WHAT DO WE DO?
At their biannual meetings, BGSC and interested students gather to discuss upcoming events hosted by the BGSC, which include science-oriented volunteer activities, social events, and Duke student life activities. BGSC also helps to identify and solve issues related to graduate student life by communicating with the department and with the Graduate School.
HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE?
Students are elected to BGSC positions every year. If you are interested in being a member, look out for emails with information for nominations during the Spring semester! Additionally, BGSC always welcomes additional student involvement in planning and setting up events, brainstorming new activities, and suggestions for outreach both within our department and the wider Duke and Durham communities! If you would like to be involved in any of these activities, please reach out to the BGSC president (rose.homoelle@duke.edu) or vice president (abigail.watson@duke.edu).
