Carly Sciandra will become a part of the second cohort of Duke PhD Peer Mentoring Fellows who provide mentorship and small group facilitation to incoming PhD students. Training will begin this May with an official start in the Fall of 2022. She and 11 other fellows will support interdisciplinary groups of first-year PhD students in their professional growth and personal development, regardless of their career aspirations.
Carly chose to mentor students and says, “It's rewarding to be a support system to new students and it's a tribute to all of my past mentors.” For her professional development, she will have the opportunity to hone her active listening and coaching skills, which are highly valued in many professions.
