Bach Nguyen Awarded Graduate/Professional Academic Exemplar of the Year from DISC

With a population of nearly 3,000 on campus, international students are an integral part of Duke’s community. Bach Nguyen, a third-year PhD candidate in the Yokoyama Lab, has been honored with the “Professional/Graduate Academic Exemplar of the Year” award from the Duke International Student Center (DISC) as part of the International Awards program. This honor is awarded to a high-achieving international graduate or professional student who has demonstrates outstanding academic and/or research excellence.

Bach Nguyen matriculated to Duke Biochemistry in 2021, and joined the Yokoyama lab in spring 2022. In 2023, only one year after joining the lab, he was honored with multiple awards including the Graduate Student Award from the Triangle Center of Evolutionary Medicine, a pilot grant from the School of Medicine, and recently the prestigious 2-year predoctoral fellowship from the American Heart Association. This award from DISC recognizes Nguyen’s contributions in research and academia that further enhance Duke’s reputation as a leading global research institution.
