Doctoral student Karly Forker has been honored with the Margaret C. Etter Student Lecturer Award from the American Crystallographic Association (ACA). This award recognizes students whose research demonstrates exceptional scientific quality and potential in the field of crystallography.
Forker, a student in the lab of Pei Zhou, PhD, professor of biochemistry, is receiving the honor for her abstract, "Modeling is Believing? How AlphaFold2 Can Mislead Molecular Interpretation."
As an award recipient, Forker will deliver an oral presentation during one of the scientific sessions at the 2025 annual meeting of the ACA in July 2025 in Lombard, Illinois. In addition to this speaking opportunity, she will receive a $250 monetary prize.
Forker said she is “incredibly honored” to receive this award. “I am grateful that it gives me the opportunity not only to present on my own research, but to learn from experts in the field of crystallography and structural biology. I look forward to the ACA conference and appreciate the opportunity to gain valuable experience presenting and networking,” she said.
